Hello!  My name is Marlene Gardner and I am a Family Childcare Provider and Early Childhood Educator with over 14 years of child care experience.  I have an
Associate of Applied Science degree in Early Childhood Development  from Tidewater Community College
and I am currently
working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education.  I am Adult, Infant and Child CPR & First Aid Certified, and attend monthly early childhood education training classes and workshops.  I have been happily married for 22 years, and my husband and I have a beautiful 16 year old daughter.  My husband retired from U.S. Navy in 1998, and now works for the U.S. Coast Guard.

Starting Point DayCare is a high-quality family daycare home that provides exceptional child care services for all children.  Studies show that young children who receive care from high-quality family daycare homes and enter kindergarten with pre-reading skills, a basic knowledge of colors, numbers and the alphabet, and developed social skills have better success in kindergarten and are less likely to fail grade levels.  My goal is to make sure every child in my care has the opportunity to learn and develop these skills at his or her own pace.   My daycare home is smoke-free and has a neat, clean, safe orderly physical setting.  It is organized into activity centers and oriented to the child's activity.  At Starting Point DayCare children get the best of both worlds.  My home daycare has an intimate, home-like setting with an academic pre-kindergarten classroom-like learning environment.  It is well planned and invites children to learn and grow.

At Starting Point DayCare children enjoy play opportunities that enhance their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.  The materials and equipment available are developmentally appropriate for children of different age levels.  Children are allowed plenty of free time to play and explore using concrete materials in order to enhance their natural curiosity and intellectual development.  The planned activities are  age-appropriate and allow for imaginative play.  My infant, toddler, and preschool program addresses each child individually.  My mission is to help children build confidence and a love of learning.
At Starting Point DayCare children are loved, nurtured,  and receive positive learning
    experiences daily.
I am dedicated to helping each child discover their unique potential–
     academically, socially, and interpersonally.
